A few days ago, Mr. Roy Suryo -a popular figure in Indonesia- held a widely reported press conference in which he claimed that he had obtained a celluloid video tape (or a copy thereof) of the original version of ‘Indonesia Raya’ (national anthem of Indonesia) from Leiden University Library archives. Mr. Suryo himself claimed that the event should have happened about 2-3 months ago if I’m not mistaken.
The version of ‘Indonesia Raya’ that Mr. Suryo aired is about three times longer than the version we used to recognize. The press conference has stirred quite a controversy in Indonesia that some believe that we should replace the current anthem with the longer version Mr. Suryo has presented.
I would like to have your confirmation that Leiden University Library has formally given the said celluloid video tape (or a copy thereof) to Mr. Suryo about 2-3 months ago. I would also like to have more detail of that event, how Leiden University Library had assisted Mr. Suryo in search of the video, and any other background information would certainly be appreciated.
